Choosing a wig
What density should I order?
180% for most people. Drop to 150% if you have fine features or want something understated; go 200% for bobs, for lengths over 24", and for any bleached or coloured unit, because lightened hair reads thinner than natural hair at the same density. Full comparison in the density guide.
13x4, 13x6, 4x4 or 5x5 — which lace size?
Lace size is not a quality rating. It decides where you can part. A 4x4 or 5x5 closure gives a clean middle part at the lowest price; a 13x4 frontal gives four inches of parting depth; a 13x6 gives six, which is what a deep side part needs. The full comparison is here.
Why does my 22" wig look like 20"?
Textured hair shrinks — length is measured with the hair pulled straight. Body wave loses about an inch, water wave about two, kinky curly four to five. Nothing has gone wrong. The shrinkage chart gives the figure for every texture we sell, and the answer is to order up.
How do I know my cap size?
One measurement: the circumference of your head, tape just above the ears and across the middle of the forehead. It takes thirty seconds — here is how. Our caps are an average 22–22.5" and adjust from 21" to 23", which covers most adults. Outside that range, email us before you order.
Which texture should I pick?
Body wave is the most versatile — it straightens and reverts. Deep and water wave hold their pattern hardest through washing. Kinky curly reads most like natural hair and shrinks the most. Straight is the sleekest and the least forgiving at the lace edge. Plain-English texture guide.
I have never worn a wig. What should I buy?
A glueless unit, in a wavy or curly texture, at 180% density, between 18 and 22 inches. That combination is the most forgiving thing you can own and it is what we would tell a friend. The reasoning, in full.
Installing and wearing it
Can I really install a glueless wig with no glue?
Yes. The lace is pre-cut, the knots are pre-bleached, and an adjustable elastic band at the nape plus four combs hold the unit through a full day, including a workout. Glue buys longevity across several days, not security on day one. What makes a wig genuinely glueless.
What do I need to buy alongside it?
For a glueless unit: nothing you do not already own. The honest list is your hands and a mirror. For a glued frontal you will want adhesive, a scalp-safe cleanser, small sharp scissors and edge control.
How do I install a lace front?
Braid your own hair flat, cap it, trim the lace against your hairline leaving an eighth of an inch, apply adhesive in thin layers, press and dry cool. Step-by-step, for beginners. If that sounds like work, buy glueless — steps two and four disappear.
Can I sleep in it?
You can, and it costs you roughly half the lifespan of the unit. If you do, use a satin bonnet, tie the hair up loosely and moisturise the ends. What friction does overnight — and why taking a glueless cap off is the better answer.
Will it look obvious?
Four things give a wig away, in this order: sitting too far forward, shine, density that is too uniform at the hairline, and hair that never moves. Three of the four are free to fix. How to fix them.
Do you sell wigs with bangs?
Not yet as a dedicated unit. A fringe is worth considering if you want the easiest possible wear — it covers the entire hairline, so there is no lace to melt and no blending at all. Who bangs suit, and what you give up.
Caring for it
How often should I wash it, and how?
Every 8 to 12 wears. Sulphate-free shampoo, cool water, stroke downwards, condition the mid-lengths and ends only, air dry on a stand. Never brush it wet and never shampoo the lace. The six steps, and the four mistakes.
How long will a wig last?
Twelve to eighteen months of regular wear for virgin hair; three years or more for raw. Care is the variable, not price — a well-treated $150 unit outlives a neglected $400 one. Nine habits that double the lifespan.
It is too shiny. Can I fix it?
Usually yes, and usually by washing it — most new-unit shine is a silicone coating that comes off in two or three washes. After that, dry shampoo is the tool. Do not use baby powder and do not rough up the cuticle with a towel. What works and what damages it.
How should I store it?
On a wig stand, out of direct sun, not folded in a drawer. A stand keeps the cap shape and stops the hair creasing, and it costs very little relative to what it saves.
The hair itself
Is this real human hair?
Yes — 100%, every unit. The product page states the grade: virgin, or raw single-donor. What raw, virgin and Remy actually mean, and where sellers stretch those words.
What is HD lace, and is it worth paying for?
HD lace is a genuinely finer-gauge mesh that disappears against a wider range of skin tones without tinting. It is also the most fragile of the three grades. Worth it if you wear the hairline exposed. HD vs transparent vs Swiss.
What do "bleached knots" and "pre-plucked" mean?
Bleached knots are the hand-tied knots at the hairline lightened so they stop reading as dots under the lace. Pre-plucked means the front density has been thinned by hand to fake a natural hairline gradient. Both are done at the factory on every unit we sell. What each term describes.
Will the lace match my skin tone?
HD lace is fine enough to disappear against most skin tones untinted. On deeper skin tones, a light dusting of foundation or a lace tint spray on the underside gives an exact match.
Can I dye or bleach it?
Darker: yes, without restriction. Lighter: a colourist only, and only on virgin or raw hair. Bleaching a unit yourself is the most common way people destroy one. If you want a custom colour, buy the 613 platinum unit, which is already lifted, and have it toned.
Ordering, delivery and returns
What currency are prices in?
Your local one, where we support it — browsing from Australia, you are seeing AUD. The selector in the header confirms which. More for Australian customers.
How long does delivery take?
Dispatch is 1–2 business days. After that: 3–5 business days standard to Australia and the United States, 4–6 to the UK, EU, Canada and New Zealand, 5–10 to the rest of the world. Express is faster and is quoted at checkout. Full table on the shipping page.
Is shipping free?
Free standard shipping on orders over $150. Under that it is a flat $12. Express is calculated at checkout.
Will I pay import duty?
Prices exclude import duties. If your country charges duty or tax on a parcel arriving from overseas, that is payable by you on arrival. We declare orders accurately and will not under-declare a parcel.
Can I return it?
Within 30 days, uninstalled, unwashed, in its original packaging with the lace uncut. Once lace is cut or adhesive has touched a unit it cannot be resold, so it cannot be returned — that is standard across the industry, and it is exactly why our glueless range ships pre-cut. Trying one on does not void the return. Full policy.
What if the unit is not as described?
We refund it in full including return shipping, whether or not you have installed it. Email a photo and your order number to returns@jenluxhair.com and we will sort it out.
Is the packaging discreet?
Yes. Plain outer packaging with nothing on the outside indicating the contents. Tracking is emailed at dispatch.
